Venue:¬†Genova, via Balbi 30, 7¬ļ floor (Ph.D. room)

Coordinator: Massimiliano Vignolo (massimiliano.vignolo@unige.it)

Description:

What makes it the case that the thought a speaker uttering a sentence like ‚ÄúBertrand Russell was a philosopher‚ÄĚ intends to express is¬†about¬†a particular individual? How can you express beliefs¬†about¬†an orange rolling on a table in¬†front of you only by saying things like ‚ÄúThat is round‚ÄĚ or ‚ÄúThat is rolling”? Is an expression like ‚ÄúJack The Reaper‚ÄĚ a genuine proper name even though we have no acquaintance with its referent? These and similar questions will be the subject matter of our meetings. For more information, please contact the organizer.
